Manx United

With all these Arab Billionaires looking to break into football Jimmy thinks we should get them involved in an island team capable of playing in the premiership.

The Manx Government would probably have to first build a stadium to entice the investment. It wouldn’t have to be huge though and it could be used for rock concerts and the like.

An ultra modern 25,000 seater would probably be plenty big enough for both home and traveling fans even when Manx UTD are playing in the premiership and getting regular Champions League football.

Thanks to the island’s tax laws we wouldn’t need 50,000 seats to pay the players wages. One of the reasons players demand such big wages to come from Europe to play in the premiership is that the UK Chancellor takes half of it from them.

As far as I know the Isle of Man is affiliated with the English FA (if we aren’t we sould be able to view a live Premiership match at 3 O’clock on a Saturday like Ireland and the rest of Europe do) so getting manx UTD involved should be straight forward.

The problem would be that Manx UTD would have to apply to join a lower league and work their way up to the premiership and most Billionaires don’t have the patience to wait 4 or 5 years.

The cost of the stadium would be far outweighed by the benefits. The money it would bring to the island, highlighting the benefits of the island as a business base, bringing the islanders together in support of ‘their’ team…..and plenty more if you think about it.

Of course it will never happen. Too much red tape, too many ifs and buts, too many gaping holes in the concept.

Great idea though :-)
